This may be one of the simplest pieces ever written by one of history’s greatest musical geniuses. So it’s kind of interesting to see what a man capable of endless complexity and astonishingly dense harmonic architecture chooses to do with a piece he sets out to write as simply as possible. It’s also interesting to note that this little prelude is the very first piece that opens his colossal (and at the time groundbreaking) Well-Tempered Clavier set of 48 Preludes and Fugues.
